The Sims 1 and 2 are finally back on PC today via The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle

Pretty cool, actually.

EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a nice surprise. Today, both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are available on PC once again via two Legacy Collections and The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.

EA has announced that it is releasing The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection on PC today. Both games are available individually as well as in The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for $40.

Both games include all expansions and nearly all stuff packs, as The Sims 2: Legacy Collection appears to be missing the 2008 IKEA Home Stuff Pack. But other than that, everything is there. In fact, both collections include some bonus content, with The Sims 1 getting a Throwback Fit Kit and The Sims 2 getting a Grunge Revival Kit in addition to all the other add-ons.

EA’s re-releasing of two older The Sims games is the first time in over a decade that both are readily available to play. The Sims 1 was only released on disc, so for many years now there was no way to get it unless you were able to track down an old physical copy and somehow play it on a modern Windows machine (and that doesn’t even include expansion packs!). The Sims 2 was available as recently as 2014 via the Ultimate Collection on EA’s Origin store, but the Ultimate Collection was removed some time ago. So unless you took advantage of it at the time, The Sims 2 remained unavailable to you unless you were able to find a physical disc similarly. With these two new collections, all four The Sims games can now be easily purchased and replayed through the digital storefront.

We gave The Sims 1 a score of 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 a score of 8.5/10 when we first reviewed both. Although many new features have been added to the series since then and many bugs have been fixed, the original versions are still worth checking out for their silliness, relative simplicity, challenge, and legacy.

The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection are both available now through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the EA App.
