Facts related to Premanand Ji Maharaj and his life which very few people know. Premanand Ji Maharaj’s real name was Anirudh Kumar Pandey. He was born in Akhri village of Sarsaul in Kanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Premanand Ji Maharaj was born in a very simple family.. His father’s name was Shri Shambhu Pandey and mother’s name was Shrimati Rama Devi. There was always a religious atmosphere in his house. He was also associated with spirituality since childhood. At the age of just 13, he left his family and became a sanyasi. After leaving home, he lived in Nandeshwar Dham for a long time and then went to Varanasi. At that time Premanand Ji Maharaj was an ardent devotee of Bhole Baba Shivaji.
He used to meditate on him day and night. He used to bathe in the Ganga three times a day and worship Bhole Baba by sitting under a peepal tree at Tulsi Ghat. Whenever he got alms, he would fill his stomach and sometimes if he did not get any, he would go to sleep hungry after drinking only Gangajal. Premanand Ji Maharaj followed rules since childhood. No matter what the situation was, no matter what the weather was. But he would definitely take a bath in Ganga three times a day. When he did not have clothes to wear, he wore a sack as his clothes. He took initiation while following celibacy. His guru was Shri Gaurangi Sharan Ji. He stayed in his company for about 10 years.

Actually, Premanand Ji Maharaj’s spiritual journey started with Shiva devotion in Shiva’s city Varanasi. But he had an attraction and love for Radharani and Lord Krishna in his heart. When he got the company of Shri Hit Govind Sharan Ji Maharaj, his devotion and love for Radha-Krishna was awakened in such a way that he turned away from Shiva devotion and got absorbed in the devotion of Radha-Krishna and settled in Vrindavan. From then till today, only Radha-Krishna comes out of his mouth. Premanand ji Maharaj’s life was full of devotion, courage and hardships.
When he reached the age of 35, he got a serious kidney disease. At that time, the doctors told that both his kidneys had failed. At that time, he had only 4 to 5 years of life. But call it the miracle of Radharani or his supreme devotion. He is still with us. However, it is not that the disease has left him. He still undergoes dialysis about three times a week. All the treatment facilities are available in his ashram itself. But for 17 years, he not only fought the battle of life with a serious disease like kidney failure but also won it. Even today, he has the same courage, bravery and devotion which is a source of inspiration for his followers and us.
